since I first remember questioning my gender identity, I’ve had to be patient.
I’ve had to wait to connect with myself, to see myself, to BE myself.
waiting & being patient is something we, as trans people, often have to do.
we spend what feels like LIFETIMES being patient.
& although intentions may not be to harm, telling trans people to “be patient” is rarely helpful. It’s something I’ve been told many times throughout my transition and each time it feels as though I’m not understood.
or that my experience is being undermined. because of course i’m being patient. I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO BE PATIENT.
let’s stop telling trans people to be patient – it rarely helps anybody x
